Plot Summary
“I to the world am like a drop of water that in the ocean seeks another drop” (The Comedy of Errors, Act 1, Scene 2). In this madcap, musical comedy, two sets of twins are tragically separated in a shipwreck. Determined to reunite their family, Antipholus and Dromio of Syracuse arrive in the city of Ephesus in search of their respective twin brothers. Upon their arrival, strange happenings occur. Antipholus is greeted by strangers in the street who offer him jewelry and thank him for kindnesses. One such stranger (Adriana) claims to be his wife! Confused and beguiled by Adriana’s sister, Luciana, he and Dromio follow them to their house. Unbeknownst to them, Antipholus and Dromio of Ephesus (the long lost twins) find themselves locked out of their own home! What follows is a whirlwind of mistaken identities, misunderstandings, and mysticism that ultimately resolves in one of Shakespeare’s most touching family reunions.
